Alaska 2013 Fairbanks & Chena Hot Springs

We took the 4 hour McKinley Dome Train to Fairbanks. We were able to visit the Museum of the North at the U. of Alaska Fairbanks. Sue P. caught her plane home and we had a nice dinner with Putty & Terry before thay took off for Nebraska. Jack & I toured around the Fairbanks area and were able to visit the Creamery Wild Fowl Migratory Fields where we walked through the Boreal Forest that was blanketed in Aspen & Birch tree leaves. It was just spectacular. We also paid a visit to the Alaska Pipeline (very impressive ) and the Large Animal Research Station. We turned in our rental car and picked up the shuttle to Chena Hot Springs resort about an hour out of town. Here we saw the famous Aurora Ice Museum where we enjoyed Appletinis in real Ice glasses. It was beautiful and not as cold as we had expected. They keep it at a constant 20 degrees but there is no wind chill factor. We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights one early morning (1-4AM) and our trip was complete when we woke up on our last morning to snow! We ate our most delicious meals here of the entire trip (kudos to the chef )
