Illucinations Collection of Alcohol Ink Paintings 2017
I have been painting with alcohol inks since 2014. I am basically self taught in this medium. I started off exploring this kind of painting by reading June Rollin's book, Alcohol Ink Dreamscaping. I also explored information on the internet. I started off with learning the different techniques used by June and others but have discovered some of my current techniques through 'play'. I have painted on paper, tiles and glass. My favorite remains painting on Yupo paper.
These paintings were created on Yupo, a non porous paper using alcohol inks. The inks were dropped onto the paper, and with the addition of a blending solution, they were manueuvered using straws, plastic cards cut into shapes, or covered with newspaper bags, or plastic wrap. After drying, they were sealed with a UV protectant before being mounted onto card stock. This whole process can take a few weeks as the inks need to cure before sealing and then dry before folding and putting into envelopes. These newest paintings have taken on an entirely different look than those I did in 2014. I notice that some are, 'Out of this World', some are 'A Walk through Nature' ,and some are 'Under-the Sea-like'. These paintings can be used for cards or framed to hang on a wall. I call my collection of this kind of art work, 'Illucinations'
